NVivo Server supports multiple active license keys. You must enter a license key during installation, but you may need to add additional license keys, if you need more client access licenses (CALs) to support client connections to the server. If you upgrade your hardware, you may need to add processor licenses
The license key you enter when you install NVivo Server entitles you to install the software on a server with specific hardware. It also entitles you to a certain number of Client Access Licenses (CALs). When users connect to a server project, they consume Client Access Licenses (CALs). You can choose to allocate licenses to specific users, or to concurrent (floating) users, or a combination of both.
If your installation key does not contain sufficient CALs for your organization, you can purchase an additional license key that provides more CALs. If you upgrade your hardware or migrate NVivo Server to a different virtual or physical server, you may need to purchase an additional license key that provides more processor licenses.
Refer to Configure permissions and allocate license (Understand how licenses work) for more detailed information on processor licenses and CALs.

Once the license has been added, you must activate it—CALs associated with the key will be available once the license is activated. Refer to Activate a server license for more information.
NVivo Server supports multiple active license keys—you are prompted to enter a license when you install the software, and you can add additional license keys after installation. Each license key must be activated before its CALs entitlements can be used.
To activate the license key:
Open NVivo Server Manager.
Click the Licensing tab.
On the left, click the Licenses tab.
For the license you want to activate, click Activate.
In the Activate License dialog box, enter the required details.
Click Activate.
NOTE
To deactivate a license key (for example, if you want to use it on another server), click Deactivate in the Licenses tab—you may need to reallocate CALs as a result of deactivation.
If activation fails because you do not have an Internet connection, you can request an activation key from QSR International to activate your license—refer to How to activate if Internet activation fails for more information.
